Progoti Samaj Kallyan Protisthan and Poribar Porikalpana (PSKP&PPS) is a Non-Government volunteer Organization. It was established in February, 1980. A group of social workers initiated the formation of the organization under the leadership of MRS.ZEBUNNESSA HOSSAIN. The organization started receiving community support since inception. The project initially started to provide Family planning and Maternal Child Health Care and social development activities since 1981 with the funds from the government subvention committee.

Bangladesh is most densely populated country in the world with a total population of App:118 million. The density of population living in the urban slum areas of Dhaka city is one of the highest among the urban slums of big Cities around the worlds. People do not have adequate shelter, clothing, water and sanitation and above all health care facilities to cater their needs. The overall health Care situation is one of the worst services available, even in Bangladeshi standard. Progoti Samaj Kallyan Protisthan and Poribar Porikalpana Sangstha’s volunteers felt the need to work for these people, who are not receiving support from any other local volunteer agencies to meet their immediate health Care and women development needs.

The Government of Bangladesh has distributed different wards (area) of Dhaka City among few leading NGOs of the country to avoid duplication of efforts. PSKP&PPS was assigned wards No, 14,15,16 and 17 of Dhaka city corporation, with a total population of 193957, of which 70% were slum areas. Since 1984, The Asia Foundation (TAF) took over to support this organization to provide Family Planning and Maternal and child health Care Services to PSKP&PPS assigned areas with Unity through Population services as a joint project. Since 1988 TAF supported PSKP&PPS as an individual project. At the start of the PSKP&PPS’s program in this area, the CPR was 39% only, which has now risen to 70%. This significant achievement and increases of CPR in our project area has ensured continuation support from our Donor agency THE ASIA FOUNDATION (TAF) for the last ten Years.

Side by side the people of our project area need support for women development activities and income generating activities to increase the quality of life of women and community people. With this background, our organization started type writing training Centre, tailoring training Centre for the community people development. This program is funded with PSKP’s own fund, collected through volunteers’ donations, contributions and fees.

Our working area was divided into 3 units. Each unit has a clinical Set-up, which are capable to provide health education, general treatment, Family Planning services and Maternal child health (MCH) to the residents of the project area. The project has been successfully running and EPI (Expanded Program on).
